Broadgate Homes chooses Smartfit central heating/hot water control system for all new-build homes

SPlug-in connections and self-diagnostics mean the system cannot be installed incorrectly

BRACKNELL, UK, 4 May 2001 – Honeywell's Smartfit central heating control system is being installed as a standard in all new homes built by Broadgate Homes. Smartfit is pre-wired, with plug-in connections, so it makes installation much easier. "You can't install it incorrectly," commented Steve Williamson, purchasing manager with Broadgate Homes, a major independent developer based in Spalding, Lincolnshire. "If anything is plugged in wrongly, the built-in diagnostic feature shows straightaway there is a problem."

Broadgate Homes was established 25 years ago and has built a wide variety of homes at numerous locations throughout South Lincolnshire. It previously installed Honeywell "stand alone" products and has installed 180 Smartfits since standardising on the system. The company takes pride in delivering quality and value for money, as reflected in its the high standard of the heating control system. "Smartfit is easy to use yet provides sophisticated and flexible control, enabling home owners to minimise their energy consumption," explained Steve Williamson.

Broadgate uses subcontractors to install the heating and hot water systems in its new-build homes, which range from two to five bedrooms in size. "Smartfit cuts down their time and costs, should a householder have a problem with their heating or hot water," explained Steve Williamson. "The householder phones with a diagnostic code from their Smartfit LCD display, which tells the contractor exactly what the problem is. It identifies whether a home visit is required by an electrician or a plumber and they can take the items needed to solve the problem in one visit."

The Smartfit controller has been received enthusiastically by Broadgate Homes' customers, who appreciate the convenience of a single point of control for setting the temperatures and switching times of their central heating and hot water. "Homeowners like it and find it very easy to use," observed Steve Williamson.

Smartfit circuits use 12 volts, not mains voltage, and are centred on a connection box that provides plug-in or simple 2-wire connection for all space heating and hot water controls. Installers simply connect the two-wire room unit, plug in the valves and cylinder sensor, and the system is complete. Valve actuators simply snap on and are common to all valves in the range.
