New energy-efficient Honeywell lighting system for GlaxoSmithKline in Harlow enables users to program a different lighting level in each room.

BRACKNELL, UK, 21 SEPTEMBER 2001    Honeywell Enterprise Service Solutions has completed a £100,000 project to supply and install an automatic lighting system at GlaxoSmithKline in Harlow.  Honeywell worked with consultants Currie and Brown and was subcontracted by the principle contractor, Dudley Bowers.  “The project was completed a week early and under budget,” revealed the project manager with Currie and Brown.

The new system is more energy efficient than the original lighting controls, which used standard luminaires controlled by time clocks.  “GlaxoSmithKline can now program a different lighting level in each room from a graphical display on Honeywell’s PC-based user station,” explained Currie and Brown.  “Lighting levels and the on/off status of each light must be logged for audit purposes, so each luminaire is fitted with a lux (lighting intensity) sensor, feeding back to the Honeywell control system which records the data for printing off as required.”

The site’s emergency lighting system was upgraded as part of the project.

GlaxoSmithKline’s Harlow site has many Honeywell controllers which manage HVAC systems.  This existing installed base and experience of Honeywell controllers at Harlow was a major factor in the choice of Honeywell for the lighting project.
