In 1938, John W. Hobbs Corporation started its legacy as a quality-driven component producer. From its fledgling years of developing the first electrically wound clock for the automotive industry, Hobbs has continually expanded its capabilities and the markets we serve. We serve 37 distinct industry categories and export to 33 countries from our plants in Springfield and Spring Valley, Illinois.

Providing customers with a complete component market basket is our goal... your one-stop component shop. Our product line includes hour meters, pressure switches, shifters, turn signal switches, off-highway lighting, key switches and custom controls.

Our dedicated engineering support and model shop facilities allow us to meet precise application requirements by using the latest CAD software and rapid prototyping technologies; plus a manufacturing capability that operates using the Lean Manufacturing philosophy.

Hobbs' commitment to the customer in past years and present is what has helped us develop our world-class manufacturing systems. Some of the methods by which Hobbs is continuously improving products and processes are as follows:

  • Continuous Flow Process utilizing "Rabbit Chase" concepts are used in the focused factories in order to achieve the lowest total cost, defect-free product.
  • Single Minute Exchange of Dies (SMED method) provides reduced time in molding cell.
  • Statistical Process Control is used for measuring critical dimensions and controlling manufacturing processes.
  • Poke-Yoke method and computerized test equipment are utilized to eliminate scrap and rework.
  • Kanban cards are used to pull raw material and piece parts through the factory.
  • Bar coding and electronic data interchange (EDI) are available.

It is the goal of Hobbs Corporation to meet customer value-needs through continuously improved products and processes. That is the basis by which Hobbs works to create a partnership with its customers. Evidence of commitment to our customers is provided by our goal of a Shipped Product Quality Level (SPQL) of 200 ppm. We utilize Advanced Quality Planning; ISO 9000 and QS9000 based quality system.

Whether your equipment is used in a dark mine or a groomed golf course or a hospital operating room, we have the components and a world-class manufacturing capability to support your product developments.
