Wireless Transmitters Introduced at ISA
Industrial Measurement and Control introduced the new XYR 5000(tm) Wireless Transmitters, a revolutionary new family of products that measures and communicates process variables online without the need for wiring or external power, at the recent ISA show in Houston. These transmitters give industrial users the flexibility to gather information about process and assets in areas where traditional hard-wired transmitters are too costly, difficult or time-consuming to implement. The Honeywell XYR 5000 family includes devices to monitor gauge pressure, absolute pressure, temperature, and ultrasonic noise (for detecting steam and gas leaks). The line also includes an analog input interface for adding wireless capabilities to wired devices. The instruments wirelessly transmit measurements to a base radio networked to a control system or data acquisition device such as a recorder or PC. Each base radio accepts the signals of as many as 50 transmitters. The base radio also interfaces with Honeywell's PC-based Wireless Configuration Tool, which offers real-time indication, trending, reporting, and configuration capabilities. The new wireless transmitter was featured at the Instrument Society of America in Houston to rave reviews.

New ST 2000 Pressure Transmitter Offers Low Cost, High Reliability
Honeywell has introduced the cost-effective ST 2000 Pressure Transmitter, designed to replace conventional analog transmitters in process monitoring applications.
The ST 2000 Pressure Transmitter is a direct replacement for conventional analog transmitters and indicators in low-tier process industry applications. It is ideal for non-smart applications that require reliable, low-cost absolute and gauge pressure measurements.
The ST 2000 expands Honeywell's product offerings in the growing pressure transmitter market by providing an economical yet powerful complement to the higher performance ST 3000® Smart Pressure Transmitter line. Target industries for the product include food and beverage, power generation, water and waste, pharmaceuticals, fine chemicals, and pulp and paper.
The ST 2000 family comprises eight gauge-pressure models that range from14.5 to 6700 psi and three absolutepressure models that range from 0 to 165 psia. All models have a turndown capability of greater than 10:1. The microprocessor-based electronics provide two-wire, 4-20 mA output signals proportional to the measured variables. The microprocessor enhances accuracy by compensating the signal for temperature effects and device non-linearities. Several process connections are available for the ST 2000, including a ˝-inch NPT and a flush-mount sanitary connection. Each ST 2000 is supplied with an LCD indicator for local display of the process variable. Configuration is accomplished via two pushbuttons on the meter, thus eliminating the need for a hand-held terminal or PC.

Honeywell IM&C Transmitters Earn Industry Praise
Frost & Sullivan has selected Honeywell Industrial Measurement & Control transmitters for its 2003 Product Line Strategy Award.
The global growth consulting firm said, “Honeywell has engineered several achievements including the enhancements of its Lifetime Transmitters line and the North American introduction of their ST2000 Pressure Transmitter line. Honeywell has been a significant name in pressure transmitters for decades, with successful development of multiple product lines that have kept them a strong player in the North American and global market.”
In the evaluation and selection process the Frost & Sullivan team “tracks end-user requirements and market dynamics within the industry. The process includes interviews with suppliers, end-users and industry experts. The product lines are compared with customer demands and the top-ranking supplier is then presented the award.” Honeywell’s Lifetime portfolio includes Lifetime Transmitters™ for pressure measurement and Lifetime Transmitters for temperature measurement.
Congratulations to the IM&C transmitter team in earning Frost & Sullivan’s prestigious award.

Honeywell Shows Powerful Solutions at PowerGen
PowerGen, the premier power conference and exhibition was held December 9-11 at the Las Vegas Convention Center
At Honeywell’s booth #1047, visitors to the exhibition discovered a broad range of solutions for measurement and control.
Honeywell Industrial Measurement and Control highlighted the following products at the show:
-
Lifetime Transmitters™ for pressure and temperature measurement that reduce maintenance and instrument replacement costs by offering industry-leading accuracy, stability, reliability, turndown, plus a 15-year warranty—the industry’s best.
-
The versatile Pocket PC-based MC Toolkit that configures, monitors, diagnoses, and manages smart field instruments. This unique tool is designed to reduce costs and enhance productivity by handling multiple communications protocols, including Honeywell Digitally Enhanced (DE) and HART*.
-
Honeywell analytical instruments that provide accurate, reliable measurement of pH/ORP, conductivity, moisture, and dissolved oxygen. DirectLine® electronics modules reduce costs by mounting directly to the probe and providing a 4-2-mA output signal. Honeywell’s Durafet® II electrodes are the industry’s leading solid-state non-glass pH sensors.
-
Paperless recorders that incorporate the latest in color LCD technology and data storage media and are supported by a powerful suite of Windows-based PC software packages that provide extensive data analysis, graphing, and archiving facilities.
-
The HC900 Hybrid Controller that combines loop and logic control and data acquisition with an integrated operator interface in a single, cost-effective platform. Peer-to-peer controller communications allows for modular implementation of larger processes, and Ethernet communications facilitates integration into plant-wide networks.
-
Wireless transmitters that measure and communicate process variables online without the need for external power.
-
Herculine Smart Actuators that are designed for very precise damper positioning in extremely demanding environments requiring continuous duty, high reliability and low maintenance.

Honeywell Earns Control Design’s Reader’s Choice Award
Control Design magazine's annual “Reader’s Choice" issue reveals that Honeywell Industrial Measurement & Control products captured top ratings in a recently completed survey of control design engineers. Honeywell UDC Controllers and Honeywell Recorders each scored number one in their respective categories.
Control Design sponsors this annual survey of engineers "who have the authority to specify, recommend, or purchase industrial automation and control products for their machines." Respondents were asked to "identify which automation suppliers provide the best instrumentation, controls, and automation technologies for their industrial machine builder community."
In the Data Recorder category, which includes both conventional paper chart recorders and paperless recorders, Honeywell captured 31% of the readers' votes. This is 12 points higher than the number two supplier
Capturing 21% of the vote, UDC controllers beat the second place supplier by an 8 point margin. This score reflects an 8 percentage point increase over last year.
Honeywell transmitters captured second place in the pressure measurement category and improved their score by one percentage point over last year's survey.
IM&C products also topped last year's Control Design survey; our higher scores in 2003 suggests that we have further widened the gap between Honeywell and competition in terms of awareness and product preference
