Active Speed and Position Sensors for Engine Management

Camshaft and crankshaft sensors

Camshaft and crankshaft position sensors are most often used to help customers enhance their system’s engine performance, efficiency, and on-board diagnostics.

Magnetic sensing technologies available:

  • Variable reluctance

  • Hall-effect

  • Magnetoresistive

Control Valves

Customers need to be able to control fuel delivery to the cylinder in order to optimize fuel economy, emissions, and performance. Honeywell has over 20 years of experience in designing and manufacturing customized valves to meet the needs of our customers.

Possible applications include fuel metering, exhaust gas recirculation (EGR), idle speed control, hydraulic control on turbochargers, cam phasing, and cylinder deactivation.

Valve Vitals

  • Types of valves produced

    • On/Off - 2-and 3-port designs, NO/NC

    • PWM - very fast on/off valve

    • Linear or Proportional - hydraulically coupled or mechanically coupled, NO/NC

  • Valves can incorporate both pressure relief and pressure regulation in the same package

  • Valve-to-valve variation is reduced by calibrating the magnetic force to a target value

  • Honeywell valves have the ability to reduce valve-to-valve backpressure variation.

Pressure Sensors

Honeywell has the product depth and breadth to provide a device for virtually any pressure sensing application. From concept to product, all our solutions center around isolating electronics from pressure media and environment; designing key product characteristics for Six Sigma capability; and establishing close relations with customers.

Possible applications include diesel direct injection (DDI), gasoline direct injection (GDI), MAP, TMAP, and exhaust gas recirculation (EGR).
