Sensing and Control

Available
Turbidimeters

At present, turbidity measurement is primarily used in scientific and industrial environments for monitoring water quality and process control. Instruments are available from a number of suppliers and range in cost from $1500 for a basic unit to measure up to 1000 NTU, to $7000 for more sophisticated units capable of measuring up to 10,000 NTU.

These devices typically incorporate a sample cell that can be removed and filled with the desired media sample and then placed in the turbidimeter for evaluation. If desired, circulation adapters are also available to allow the meters to monitor during a process.

While very effective in these applications, the technology has not been affordable enough to meet the cost requirements of appliance applications.

Advances in sensor technology are making turbidity sensing available to the appliance industry in configurations that are easily incorporated into new designs at an affordable cost. Smart appliances incorporating turbidity sensors are already available in the marketplace.
