Pressure Control in an Explosion Containment Application for Food and Beverage
Product
Model CIP Sanitary Process Transmitter with 2-inch triclover flange, 1/2-inch conduit with 5-foot cable, mV output, quick response time
Application
Our customer provides equipment for fire and explosion containment. Their equipment is used on systems such as powdered sugar manufacturing. The dust created by this process becomes an explosion hazard. The customer measures the temperature and pressure in the system, and if a certain combination of the two is reached (creating an explosion,) they discharge a suppressant.
The pressure measurement is a critical aspect of their system, and needs to be accurate, stable, and very quick. They were using a pressure switch to monitor pressure changes, but the switch was not quick enough to pick up all the changes.
The customer sends the pressure and temperature signal to an amplifier and control module. They run the cable from the transducer to the amplifier in a conduit. They are required to have a sanitary fitting (CIP) for applications that go into the food and beverage industry.
Solution
Sensotec provides a Model CIP (Clean-In-Place) Sanitary Process Transmitter with a 2-inch tri-clover flange, a 1/2-inch conduit fitting with a 5-foot cable, and mV output. This is our standard Model CIP with one exception. The amp is removed to provide a mV signal. This gives our customer the quickest frequency response possible. The sensor can react to pressure changes as quickly as one millisecond, greatly enhancing the customer's ability to respond to explosions.
The Model CIP has a 2-inch, tri-clover flange that is 3Aapproved for food and beverage applications. The flange also allows for easy installation and troubleshooting. The Model CIP comes standard with a 5-foot cable and a 1/2-inch conduit which our customer utilizes.
The tri-clover flange and the frequency response of the modified Model CIP allowed us to solve our customer's application.
