Torque Cell Application
A customer needs to measure the reaction torque and axial force on very small dental drills used to perform root canals. These drills are tested in Lexan blocks that have a pilot hole pre-molded in them, then drills of increasing size are run into this hole.
Torque Cell Solution
The Lexan block is modified to sit on the shaft of the Model QWLC-8M Torque Cell, which is attached to a table. When the drill is inserted into the block and removes material, the block tries to spin. The Torque is measured by the QWLC-8M The drill is mounted to a stepper Motor which inserts the drill in the block. The Model l3 Load Cell is mounted with adhesive between the drill head and the stepper Motor mount to measure the axial force.
