Honeywell Excel controllers are "straightforward,
easy to use and understand"
BRACKNELL, UK, 23 JULY 2001 – Honeywell's Enterprise Service Solutions
business has won a £250,000 (US$355,000) order from GlaxoSmithKline to engineer,
supply and install building management systems at its manufacturing site in Ware,
Hertfordshire. Honeywell will replace an existing obsolescent system installed in the
1980s with its latest Excel 5000 systems, new control panels and new wiring.
The environmental conditions controlled by the systems must be maintained as
they are critical for manufacturing efficiency and product quality in this plant, which
operates around the clock, seven days per week. "Honeywell has a team that really
understands our business, thanks to our long-standing relationship," revealed the
projects manager with GlaxoSmithKline at Ware. "We chose them as the best team to
minimise the risk to production during installation."
To minimise disruption, Honeywell will install and wire the new equipment in
parallel with existing systems and carry out full offline tests, enabling switchovers to
be effected during short routine weekend production breaks.
The new systems will integrate fully with the site's existing Excel Building
Supervisor interface, used for site-wide system operation and management. This
familiarity with existing Honeywell Excel equipment on the site has given
GlaxoSmithKline additional confidence in the replacement project. "We have a
number of Excel 5000 series controllers on site, so we are familiar with them," said
GlaxoSmithKline's project manager. "They are straightforward, easy both to use and
understand and our instrument technicians are comfortable with them."
