Honeywell Smartfit
systems will save half a man day per installation on each of several hundred installations
for the DHE
BRACKNELL, 15 SEPTEMBER 2000 - Honeywell
has secured orders to provide several hundred Smartfit central heating control systems to
five Defence Housing Executive (DHE) sites. The DHE is an agency of the Ministry of
Defence (MOD). The systems will be used as part of a refurbishment contract which includes
the heating and hot water systems in the DHE housing stock. The exact number of Smartfit
systems and order values were not disclosed.
We expect Smartfit will save half a
working day on each installation, said Paul Hancock, Electrical Design Engineer of
Burgess Design Associates. With the Smartfit system, all connections are made
quickly and easily in one location, using plug-in, low voltage cables. It keeps wiring
problems to a minimum, makes the installers job a lot easier and saves valuable man
hours.
Burgess Design Associates are M & E
Consultants to the main contractor, J&S Seddon (Building) Ltd, Stoke, which is
undertaking the whole project.
The Honeywell Smartfit system is easier
and quicker to install than traditional wired systems because it features simple two wire
connections to a stylish controller for all heating and hot water requirements, and low
voltage plug-in connections to the cylinder thermostat, valve and pump. Although
installers must still make mains voltage connections to the pump and boiler, even these
have been reduced to one wire per terminal.
The DHE sites which will be refurbished
with the help of Smartfit systems include Weeton Barracks near Blackpool, DM Kineton in
Warwickshire, Innsworth in Gloucester and Gamecock Barracks at Bramcote, and Cardiff.
Burgess Design Associates are building
services consultants providing services to both mechanical and electrical installations,
including project management and planning supervisors. Its address is 1 King Cross Street,
Longton, Stoke-on-Trent ST3 1NQ, telephone 01782-594557.
