McLean Homes Midland Ltd improves home energy efficiency
and achieves easier and tidier installation through Honeywell's
Smartfit system for central heating and hot water control.
Energy efficiency results in higher SAP rating that
can make homes more attractive to house buyers.
BRACKNELL, UK, 5 JULY 2001 – McLean Homes Midland Ltd is installing
Honeywell Smartfit home central heating and hot water control system in all its new
homes to improve energy efficiency and make installations easier and tidier.
"Smartfit improves central heating control, resulting in a higher Standard
Assessment Procedure (SAP) rating –a measure of the home's energy cost for space
and water heating", commented John Gainham, Managing Director. "It can therefore
make homes more attractive to housebuyers.
"Smartfit also provides a much neater airing cupboard layout, as the wiring for
all space heating and hot water controls is made tidy by plug-in connectors or simple
two-wire connections to a central base unit," he stated. With Smartfit, there is no
need for a wiring diagram for the control: installers simply connect the two-wire room
unit, plug in the valves and cylinder sensor, and the system is complete.
Householders also benefit from the Smartfit installations, revealed McLean
Homes' purchasing manager, Barry Chambers. "Smartfit provides more
comprehensive control, increasing their comfort whilst reducing their energy costs. It
also includes a comprehensive diagnosis feature that displays a fault code in the event
of a problem. Householders can quote the code when requesting a service call,
enabling the technician to bring the correct replacement parts, so saving time and
reducing call-backs. Parts are also easier to replace, as Smartfit is a low-voltage
system with snap-on and plug-in parts."
Smartfit has been widely acknowledged by the domestic heating industry and
its trade press as a revolutionary development in home heating and hot water control.
It is faster and easier to install than conventional home control systems. All Smartfit
system wiring connections are low voltage and polarity-free. Although installers still
need to make mains voltage connections to the pump and boiler, even these have been
reduced to one wire per terminal. By comparison, traditional systems require over 30
wires to be prepared and connected correctly, mains voltage being carried to every
unit in the system and may have several wires connecting at a single terminal.
