Princebuild switches to Honeywell Smartfit for central heating refurbishment projects.

"User-friendly, installer-friendly and reduces time on site"

BRACKNELL, BERKSHIRE, UK, 5 JUNE 2001 – The East of England-based construction and refurbishment company, Princebuild Ltd, has switched to installing Honeywell's Smartfit control system when refurbishing and replacing central heating and hot water installations. "Smartfit is user-friendly, installer-friendly and reduces time on site, so it cuts costs," said Ralph Green, Mechanical Services Manager of Princebuild.

Before changing to Smartfit last year, Princebuild employed a traditional Honeywell programmer, room thermostat and other system components which operated at mans voltage. They required wiring to be cut, prepared and screw- connected on site. "By comparison, Smartfit is simple and fast to install," revealed Ralph Green. "It employs low voltages and comes pre-wired, with plug-in connections. A well-qualified plumbing and heating engineer can install and commission the system in one go."

Installation is simplified by Smartfit's connection box, which provides plug-in or 2-wire connection for all space heating and hot water controls. Princebuild installers simply make a mains connection to the unit, connect the controller using low voltage wiring, plug in leads to the valves and cylinder sensor, and the system is complete. A built-in diagnostics feature ensures it is connected correctly.

Princebuild also appreciates the long-term benefits of this diagnostics feature. An occupier with a heating problem can call Princebuild and quote an error code, displayed in the Smartfit controller display. From this, the service engineer knows exactly what the fault is and can take all necessary parts to the site to resolve the problem in one visit – again, saving time and cost.

Princebuild has found that users are delighted with the Smartfit controller, which provides a single pint of control for setting the temperatures and switching times of their central heating and hot water. "Users say it is straightforward and simple to use," observed Ralph Green. "This is especially important where there are elderly residents.

"We also appreciate Honeywell's excellent back-up and that their products are always available from plumbers' merchants."

Family-run Princebuild is approaching its thirtieth year in the construction industry, with its head office in Peterborough and branch offices in Northampton and Holbeach, Lincolnshire. New construction projects are focused on commercial, industrial, local authority and public sector requirements.

Modernisation and refurbishment work includes rented housing stocks, factories, offices and public buildings. "We carry out construction and mechanical work," said Ralph Green. "We have our own departments staffed by employees full qualified in their respective trades, for such things as plumbing and heating, electrical and building work."

In conclusion, Princebuild is pleased with its choice of the Honeywell system. "We're very happy with Smartfit in all respects," said Ralph Green.
