Honeywell's
Temaline: a new concept in access control, time and attendance
recording, intruder detection and integrated security and security
communications
BRACKNELL, UK, 21
MARCH 2001 - Honeywell's EBI Temaline products and architecture
provide a new system for integrated access control, time and
attendance recording, and intruder detection for customers in
Europe, Middle East and Africa. EBI Temaline brings enhanced
performance and reliability to security installations through
peripheral controllers called TemaServers and a wide-range of
LON-based field-mounted user devices, TemaKeys, which include a
variety of card readers, pinpads, keyboards, digital I/O devices
and user terminals. With EBI Temaline, users benefit from the
highest levels of system availability and reliability - a solution
that is dependable and scaleable, which meets the exact needs of
their facilities today and is readily expandable for future
growth.
EBI Temaline
manages access control, intruder detection and time and attendance
using a systems architecture, which matches users' IT standards.
Native Ethernet communications protocols allow real-time event
management and direct peer-to-peer communication across an
Ethernet backbone and a LonWorksä-compatible field-bus network.
TemaServers and
TemaKeys are an integral component of Honeywell's Open Enterprise
Buildings Integrator (EBI) environment, which provides seamless
interoperability and "single window" operator access to
a variety of Building Automation subsystems. This
"integration by design" provides benefits that reach
across the automation application spectrum to include integrated
security applications - such as Access Management, Intruder
Detection, Digital Video Management and Photo ID - HVAC (heating
ventilating and air conditioning), Safety Management Solutions
such as Fire Detection and Audio Evacuation, as well as Personnel
and Payroll management with Time and Attendance recording.
A Honeywell survey of customers identified system availability and
reliability as their primary concerns. A failure of the
supervisory system or loss of communications can cause serious
problems to a user's facility operations. In developing the EBI
Temaline system, Honeywell has three-way redundancy capability, up
to now never achieved by any Security solution. Firstly
independent modularity frees the peripheral and field devices from
reliance on the central supervisory system for all access control
operations, thus relieving the supervisory system of card
transaction processing. Secondly, Honeywell's unique "Shared
Load" concept virtually guarantees continuity of the system.
Should a TemaServer fail, another takes over management of its
field device TemaKeys without degrading the performance of the EBI
Temaline system. Finally, a removable Flash EPROM cartridge in
each TemaServer further guarantees complete data recovery of
employee card transactions in the unlikely event that all
management systems should fail.
As an open
environment, EBI allows users to use their own company database to
manage cardholder information and share this with Enterprise
Resource Planning systems such as SAP, Oracle and PeopleSoft to
address the broadest of Enterprise management requirements.
